Dark Planet Battle for Natrolis

Dark Planet has several things going for it: a clever atmosphere, even if it is pretty derivative; a good-looking engine, even if it is an egregious example of 3D for 3D's sake; and a good variety of multiplayer options, even if they aren't anything new or surprising. Unfortunately, it also has an interface that seems designed to shield you from actually playing the game. Because of this, Dark Planet is like a blast from the past, when real-time strategy clones were cranked out with no regard for how good--or even playable--they were.

Delta Force 8 Joint Operations Typhoon Rising

It's only natural to think of Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising as an attempt to clone EA's successful multiplayer-focused team-based shooters, Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam. On the surface, Joint Operations looks like a modern-day Battlefield game: you participate as a member of a team as you attempt to seize a number of strategic objectives, and you can run around on foot or jump into a myriad of vehicles to get around the vast maps. But developer and publisher NovaLogic throws in a lot of new features to differentiate Joint Operations from the competition, and some of these features are quite innovative and exciting. There's the fact that the game can support up to 150 players per server, which is significantly greater than what the Battlefield games can support. Then there's the dynamic day/night cycle that actually models the time of day; no longer are you fighting in perpetual daylight or eternal dusk. Joint Operations is a genuinely exciting game, which makes it all the more difficult to admit that the retail version of the game also has a few notable flaws.

Dragon Ball Z Bid for Power

What is Bid For Power? Bid For Power is a total conversion for QuakeIII that plays nothing like the original game. Players take control of Ki-powered superheroes and battle it out in a mostly aerial fight. The game is highlighted by the work of a great art team and an original style, and the game play is extremely fast paced. It can be difficult to keep up with until you get the hang of it.

BFP started out as a Dragonball Z game, and neared completion as one. They ran into legal problems and had to repopulate the universe with original things. This delayed them quite a bit, but they ended up with a population of unique and cool characters to play.
If you are new to the game be prepared to have a difficult time finding a server. They had about 30 people playing at a time for about a year or two, but it has mostly died out. BFP has also been heavily modified by several different groups using the scripting system, so you may run into compatibility issues.

Drakan Order of the Flame

Drakan: Order of the Flame is a third-person action/adventure game set in a fantasy realm. You play as Rynn, the "warrior princess" in her quest to rescue her lost brother. Rynn teams up with Arokh, a fire-breathing dragon, allowing for incredible 3D air-based combat in addition to Rynn's deadly ground attacks.
Many centuries ago, mankind and dragonkind fought each other, and chaos ruled. After many years, the conflict came to an end, as the Order of the Flame was created, bonding men and dragons together as the protectors of peace and virtue. Under the direction of the Order, the world of Drakan has prospered in peace, attaining new heights of learning of magic.

All this came to an end when Navros, the war mage, betrayed the Order of the Flame, and led the Dark Union against the Order in the Dark Wars. He released evils on the world such as the Wartocks, to serve as his army. The Order was demolished, and only by the sacrifice of the great dragon Arokh the Drak Union was stopped. Arokh and the rest of the surviving dragons went away to sleep, and the Order and the Union were thought to be finished at that time, centuries ago. They were wrong.

Dawn of Magic

All of the extra hocus-pocus in Dawn of Magic should have made it a cut above the typical Diablo clone. While the standard action role-playing game contents itself with nonstop hacking and slashing, this one from developer Sky Fallen Entertainment gives you all of that twitchy-fingered goodness along with a dozen magical schools that let you raise the dead, launch fireballs, and even suck the blood out of enemies. But all of this Harry Potter stuff is worthless in the end because horrific bugs make the game virtually unplayable and the lackluster game design will have you groaning or yawning before you've cut down a dozen monsters.

Delta Force 2

Novalogic's Delta Force 2, the sequel to 1998's Delta Force, places players in the role of an American Special Forces soldier. Spanning more than forty missions of squad-based combat, Delta Force 2 requires players to either work solo or guide a handful of squad members into heavily fortified enemy ground. Most missions involve search-and-destroy objectives and take place on a wide variety of landscapes and locations.
